Online Music Sites
An Online Music Site is a web site that provides a virtual platform for artists to do various things: upload their music, sell downloads, CD and merchandise, add in Gig dates, collect fans and keep people informed of events surrounding the release and performance of their music. Usually these sites are created by musicians or music related companies, for musicians. Some of these sites are free for musicians and some offer packages that deliver different services. Musicians are encouraged to use these sites to spread the word and use tools provided to promote their music to music lovers globally.
If you have recorded demos of your voice, music, songs etc. or you have finished product (IE a CD for sale), a great way to get exposure is to upload these songs to OMD’s (Online Music Distributors). This is an excellent way for any artist to gain exposure to industry, potential fans and other musicians. You can meet others to collaborate and do many other things when you upload your music and begin to promote yourself online. Don’t forget to set up your own web site so that you have your own personal “home on the net” (i.e. your “bandname.com” or “yourartistname.com”).
This way fans can have one central place to keep track of your releases, shows, and other important info. Remember that you can make use of any Online Music Distribution site as long as your music fits into the theme of music that site supports and you make sure you have read the Terms of Service for each site before you join and actively promote your music. Make sure you read through and completely understand the user agreement you sign when you join. Some of these sites charge to host your music and some do not. Due to the nature of OMS’s coming and
