A Social Networking Site is a web site that provides a virtual community for people interested in a particular subject or just to “hang out” together. Members communicate by voice, chat, instant message, videoconference and blogs, and the service typically provides a way for members to contact friends of other members. Such sites may also serve as a vehicle for meeting in person. The “social networking site” is the 21st century term for “virtual community,” a group of people who use the Internet to communicate with each other about anything and everything.
For the purposes of this site, Social Network Sites are ones that are not necessarily completely focused on music, however; music may make up a part of the social component. For sites that deal exclusively or primarily with music, please see the Online Music Site listing HERE. I have also included Social Bookmarking, Social Aggregation, Video Sharing and other social interactive sites on this list.
Remember that you can make use of any social networking site to make people aware of your music. Just make sure that you have a common interest with the people who share the social network and make sure you read the Terms of Service for each site before you join and actively promote your music. Happy social networking!
